The Verizon Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Verizon Communications, Inc. Since 2000, the Verizon Foundation has invested more than $450 million in the United States and around the world to help others. In 2008, the Foundation donated more than $68 million to support charitable and nonprofit agencies, awarding 2,910 competitive grants. Verizon employees contributed more than 608,000 hours of community service, giving their time and financial support to causes and organizations they care about. Employees donated $12.7 million and Verizon contributed $13.4 million in matching gifts to 15,630 nonprofits. Since 2000, Verizon employees and retirees have given more than 3 million volunteer hours to their communities.

That’s why Verizon’s employee engagement program is the 5th largest in the United States, based on the hours volunteered by our employees. Last year, our employees contributed more than 608,000 hours, and $12.7 million, to causes and organizations they care about. It is the privilege of the Verizon Foundation to encourage and support our employees’ volunteer efforts. Last year, we provided $13.4 million in matching gifts, and recognized more than 13,652 individual volunteers.
