Head Coach Job Responsibilities (page down for Assistant Coach)
I. Be familiar with current U.S.S. rules and Mid-Valley Conference rules. Insure that
the team functions in compliance with both.
II. Punctuality:
Ensure pool is ready at start of practice each day, pool cover removed, ropes in place, etc.
Start and finish practice sessions on time.
Be at all meets at prior to warm up time.
Ensure that at the conclusion of practice all equipment is returned to proper storage locations. Ensure facility is vacated by all unauthorized personnel, and gates/storage units are securely locked
Be at all meets prior to warm up time.
III. Follow coaches manual to develop a practice plan that includes a balance of basic instruction: strokes, starts and turns, and conditioning.
Using coaches manual as a guide, develop and implement a detailed practice schedule that enables all coaches and swimmers to understand what is expected of them each day of practice.
Train assistant coaches.
Establish and maintain a record of each swimmer’s performance during practices and meets so a program of goals and instruction can be developed.
Review all swimmer’s times after each meet. Note individual performances, best times, slower times on swimmer’s evaluation record.
Review DQ’s for each swimmer. Note instruction to be given to correct problem.
Modify practice plan to give necessary instruction to each swimmer.
IV. Prepare seeding for each meet in a timely manner.
Maximize the number of team members participating in each event. Equalize the number of events each team member swims including relay events whenever possible. Organize 1st and 2nd relay teams in each age group, if possible.
Contact opposing teams for seeding guidelines for all home meets.
Organize meets to ensure each swimmer rotates through all strokes.
V. Foster a positive attitude among swimmers and parents by:
Complimenting individual effort or improvement.
Exhibiting an enthusiastic, positive attitude when coaching and socializing with team.
VI. Support and maintain a productive environment during practice sessions, meets and activities. Support the discipline policy of the board.
VII. Support and participate in team fund raising activities.
VIII. Participate (or delegate to Assistant Coach) participation in parent and board meetings.
IX. Attend and participate in the team awards dinner. Attend other team sponsored social events.
X. Perform (or delegate to Assistant Coaches) miscellaneous duties requested by the swim team board.

Assistant Coach Job Responsibilities

III. Assist the head coach to optimize practice outline.
Following the day-by-day practice outline established by the Head Coach.
Assist Head Coach in establishing and maintaining a record of each swimmer’s performance during practices and meets so a program of goals and instruction can be developed.
Review all swimmer’s times after each meet. Note individual performances, best times, slower times on swimmer’s evaluation record.
Correct swimmer errors reflected by DQ‘s or coaches notes.
Evaluate and recommend technique improvements related to strokes, start and turns for each swimmer during the season.
Providing ongoing input to the head coach’s swimmer evaluation book.
IV. Work with the head coach to foster a positive attitude among swimmers and parents by:
Complimenting individual effort or improvement.
Exhibiting an enthusiastic, positive attitude when coaching and socializing with team.
Handing out meet ribbons.
V. Work with the head coach to support and maintain a productive environment during practice sessions, meets and activities. Support the discipline policy of the board.
VI. Support and participate in team fund raising activities.
VII. Participate in parent and board meetings as requested.
VIII. Attend and participate in the team awards dinner. Attend other team sponsored social events.
IX. Attend conference meetings as requested.
X. Perform miscellaneous duties as requested by the swim team board.
